Vanessa Rigoroso, Associate Stylist

When and why did you join S&D?

I joined because I had already been buying from my now-sponsor for about two years.  I took the plunge because I realized I could use this fun spending money to pay off my student loans.  I have been in a long distance relationship with my boyfriend (also in the Navy) and the extra flex money helps the travel between us both.

What are some significant life changes because of Stella & Dot?

I have met an awesome tribe of women OUTSIDE my pool of military servicewomen.  Stella & Dot has given me a chance to up my style/fashion game when I’m out of uniform and I’m happy to provide the same opportunities to my shipmates.

Does the military life and Stella & Dot work well together?

Military life CAN work really well with Stella & Dot, in my opinion.  There are always obstacles — for example, when I move overseas next, my mind is trying to figure out how to maintain a business while being out of country.  A lot of that has to do with shipping constraints.  Thankfully, I have been just as successful with social media, so there are always ways to work around. Stella & Dot has always attracted me because it is a flexible business — so I can serve as well as explore entrepreneurship.

How do you think social media has helped you as a Stylist and Naval Officer on the move?

Social media allows the “flexible” part of the business really take hold.  I’m in the military AND in graduate school, and with what I’d call “normal” check-ups on Facebook, I can quickly share my style through photos and videos and still promote my business and achieve results.  With the internet, I can process orders and returns for people 5000 miles away from me.  It’s amazing.

What is the best advice you could give someone in the military considering joining Stella & Dot?

You get out what you put into it — I’ve seen stay-at-home moms all the way to employed military spouses do this job.  This job gets you connected with an amazing group of women who only help each other up, not put each other down.  The environment is unmatched — I don’t know why I waited so long to do it.
