Stylists Support Breast Cancer Awareness

Meet Stylist Emma Coffey, based in Abingdon, Maryland and a 32-year-old mom of two daughters, Piper and Violet and two dogs, Bayou and Beignet. Emma joined Stella & Dot when she found herself at home with her two young children and craved time outside of the house. She's been a Stylist for 3 years and recently organized a fundraiser for Breast Cancer Awareness that helped over 100 people! 

1. What's your favorite part of being a Stylist?


My favorite part of Stella & Dot are the people! While I love getting out to Style Sessions and meeting new women; what really keeps me going are the strong and amazing Stylists I've met since joining. I love getting together at local meet-ups and building my own team and watching them grow and flourish in their businesses. There is something so special about our community that you just do not find every day- the support and encouragement are like nothing else.  

2. Tell us about your day-to-day. As a busy wife, mom and Stylist, how do you fit it all in?

My life as a Stylist changes seasonally, but now that my daughters are a bit older and are in school we are getting into a regular routine. I do all the mom duties and then when they are both in school I am able to do some of my Stella business. Also, I get a lot of work done in the school pick-up line! I love that I can take my work anywhere with me. A few evenings a month I am out at Style Sessions and hosting "Virtual" Style Sessions straight from my computer! It's great that I can choose my calendar and if my family has a crazy busy month I can schedule more Virtual Style Sessions and work my business that way.

3. What prompted you to do a fundraiser for Breast Cancer Awareness and how is this subject close to you?


Since joining Stella & Dot, I have made it a priority to use my business to give back. My husband Chris, is a Veteran of Operation Iraqi Freedom and his service to our country is a huge reason why I want to use Stella & Dot as a vehicle to give back to those in our community.  I love that I am able to give back in a big way to the organizations that are close to my heart and use my business to give back to our community. Over the summer my friend and fellow Stylist, Lisa Zubrowski wanted to start a new fundraiser and we had seen other Stylists who created "Chemo Care" pouches to hand out to women at local Cancer Centers. Our local team of Stylists jumped in and helped run the campaign together to create an even bigger impact.

Cancer affects so many families, including my own.  My mother-in-law was diagnosed and had to complete radiation for breast cancer three years ago and I know what a trying and difficult time it was for her - both physically and emotionally.  I know how a simple act of kindness can go a long way to lift the spirits of the many women who are treated for Cancer and in and out of these centers daily and weekly.

4. What are chemo pouches?


Chemo Care pouches are pouches with various items that women can use during their treatments all in a pouf to bring back and forth between treatments. We reached out to our friends, family and customers and asked everyone to sponsor a Chemo Care Pouch. They chose a Stella & Dot pouf and then we used our commissions from the sales to fill it with items that the women could use during their treatments. Inside each pouch, we included warm socks, hand lotion, chapstick, mints, a crossword book and a written note from us or the sponsor with words of encouragement and love. 

5. Who receives these pouches/how are they used?


We were able to drop off over 100 Chemo Care Pouches to our local Cancer Center and the staff were beyond grateful! The hospital staff told us that they will use the pouches to help brighten their patients' day.  Some will be passed out to new patients as they navigate through their first treatments, some will be given to women who are having an especially tough day and some will be given to women who financially are not able to treat themselves to the little extras due to the high cost of their treatments. The staff expressed that these small acts of kindness really do make a huge impact on the women in the Center, and create a bright light in an otherwise dark time in their lives.  It was amazing to see the idea come to life and exceed our expectations!
