#WCW: Stylist Jen Maravillas
Behind every successful woman is a tribe of women who have her back, so every Wednesday, we'll feature a Stella & Dot Stylist as our #WomanCrushWednesday. Meet the women who inspire and amaze us with their stories.
This week, we're crushing on Stella & Dot Associate Director, Police Seargent, Realtor and all-around #GirlBoss, Jen Maravillas, who was deployed to help with the Northern CA fires and in the midst of despair, experienced true human kindness.
What's your day job?
I'm a full-time Police Sergeant at San Mateo Police Department, a Stella & Dot Associate Director, a Realtor, an avid fitness junkie and most importantly, mama of two beautiful girlies and wifey to a San Francisco Fire Fighter.
Why did you start your Stella & Dot business?
I started selling Stella & Dot because I fell in LOVE with the Avalon tote and my sweet friend who was selling it to me, told me that I should just join her team- because the price of the bag was almost as much as the starter kit to become a Stylist... so I figured, why not? I signed up one week later!
Tell us your story.
I am a total "go for it" goal driven kind of gal and am a huge believer in trying everything and living by the motto, "you only live once, so go for it"! I am in love with life in general- including my sweet family, loving friends and all of my jobs. Contrary to what people think, I do sleep- although not very often so I can fit in as much as possible every day. This year, I set a goal for myself to run EVERY day, no matter what and run at least 2017 total miles for the year. Today was day 298 of my run streak and I hit 1501 total miles this morning- only 516 to go and I'm determined to get there!
How do you find time for it all? Tell us what balance looks like to you.
Like everyone, our life is quite crazy the majority of the time- juggling full-time jobs, fitness, social time, family, etc. Life is nuts, but I wouldn't have it any other way. We are committed to living with passion, giving 100% and sharing it with others. We work hard and play harder- isn't that what life is all about? I feel very balanced with my crazy life most of the time and feel truly blessed to be living and loving this crazy ride called life.
What opportunities has Stella & Dot afforded you?
Stella & Dot has allowed us to save more and travel more, plus "fun money" to splurge on things here and there that we wouldn't normally let ourselves.
What should people know about Stella & Dot?
Stella & Dot is my side hustle that has brought me so much more than pretty jewelry. I signed up to get a free tote and gained a whole world of amazingness! I feel so lucky to be part of this beautiful community of amazing people and am pretty much obsessed with it all.
What's your personal favorite piece in the line?
This is hard because I love our jewels and wear my delicate engravable bar and ear climbers almost every day! Right now, I'm crushing hard on Maette (Stella & Dot's clothing line) because getting dressed has been so much easier by "just adding jeans", jewels and a Maette top. I'm out the door and cute in 20 minutes flat and for a girly-girl that spends the majority of her life in a police uniform, I don't want to have to spend hours getting ready when I'm not at work.
How many Trunk Show's do you host a month and how much do you make, on average, with your Stella & Dot business?
I try to aim for 3-4 shows a month and do about 5 online shows a year. On average, I make about $3,000/month.
As a Sergeant, tell us about what you've been doing to help with the Northern CA fires?
I have been following the fires very closely and as an SMPD Sergeant, I was deployed out last week to provide mutual aid in Napa. We assisted the local law enforcement agencies and community with whatever they needed. The highlight of that day was not the work that I did, but the outpouring of love and human kindness I felt that day. In my 15 years of law enforcement, I have never felt so emotionally moved by what I experienced and saw, as far as a community bonding together during such a tragic, devastating incident. This is what we all need to focus on and what we need to continue to get through this. We can... and we will.
What can people do to help?
While the scope of destruction will become clearer in the coming days and weeks, there are already needs in the communities. The top need now is monetary donations- especially from those outside of the fire area and you can find a list on GoFundMe's California Fire Relief pages. There is a large backlog of supplies thanks to the community's generosity, so many organizations are being inundated with items and volunteers.
Stella & Dot affords women the opportunity to have a flexible income, a supportive community and so much more. Learn more about the opportunity here.
